Ovarian Cyst
(CT) - I am an early-middle age Mother of two, work part time and hike 10+ miles per week.
In a routine exam, my Doctor found a possible cyst and ordered an ultrasound and CA-125
lab test which came back slightly high. The possibility of having cancer made my husband nervous.
My doctor referred me to a gynecologic oncology specialist who scheduled a consult
several weeks later.
Looking back, I had experienced some discomfort, increased bathroom visits and
felt my waistline increasing but didn't have any pain. As my visit neared, my discomfort
and husband's anxiety increased. He contacted MedVizi who provided some instructions for us to
request at imaging procedures.
At my exam, the surgeon was very helpful explaining my condition and potential
of cancer. They hadn't received my ultrasound but said they didn't need it.
A CT scan was ordered a week later followed by surgery a few days after that.
After the scan, the imaging wasn't ready so my husband drove back to get the CD and
sent it to MedVizi who said that we hadn't received all the imaging. They called the
hospital who prepared another CD that my husband picked up and sent to MedVizi.
The surgery (laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomy) went very well and the biopsy showed
no cancer. The surgeon gave my husband the good news after surgery. He expressed our deepest
gratitude then asked about a handful of spots on my liver using an iPad.
My surgeon told him that only one lesion was diagnosed and that we should follow up with
a liver specialist who verified the other cysts in the liver. The specialist was excellent!
They put my mind at ease by fully explaining the small cysts and that my labs looked good
but offered an MRI which may give more details. That is my next step.
I am so grateful for my excellent care team and for their support!
Spine
-
Lumbar Spine
(MRI) - I am in my early-adulthood and work a desk job but grew up doing construction.
Over the last few years, my back pain went from annoying to losing feeling in my right toe and
numbness in my foot. I couldn't walk for more than 15 minutes without my leg requiring a break.
I didn't want back surgery but exercises weren't helping enough and I was concerned about
permanent nerve damage.
At my first spine consult, I learned that I had "drop foot" which made longer walks
challenging. An MRI was ordered so I contacted MedVizi who had helped us with several other MRI's.
Seeing the damage on the iPad, I could see why I was told my discs would not heal on their own.
It was also helpful to compare my images with others online.
After several spine consults, talking with others and reading forums / literature,
I met again with one of the surgeons who was highly recommended. He talked me and my wife through
the laminectomy procedure and risks. It sounded like it had the potential to restore my
active lifestyle for many years so we made the decision to have surgery.
Surgery went well even though the lowest disc of 3 had limited clean up options. That and a tear
to my dura prolonged surgery a bit and required a few days in the hospital. The first day
following surgery was intense and stressful but my wife stayed with me to watch over my care.
I'm back to a normal lifestyle after the weird but welcome feeling returning to my foot.
We are so fortunate to have knowledge at our fingertips to help make make decisions about our care.
The folks who do my MRI's were very helpful again. Thank you.
Sending a virtual bear hug to my surgeon, team and billing admin for guidance, expertise and help.
